Irrigation, sod and trees

This picture was taken from the right side of #18 green. We are adding new irrigation to water the green surround. The old irrigation had to be abandoned when we started the construction of the new patio. We spent today filling in the some of the trenches and sodding over them. We also planted three paperbark maple trees.

Irrigation

In today's post, the blog has a picture of the staff trenching #11 rough to add irrigation. This trenching skid-loader cuts roughly 18 inches deep into the ground. We then connect PVC pipe to the existing water service. After connecting communication wire and the actual irrigation sprinkler, all we need to do is add water into the pipe. We will then fill the trench and sod and seed the area. We plan to turn on the water for the entire irrigation system in about 2 weeks.

Winterization of the Irrigation System

Today, we will winterize the irrigation system. Why? To keep the irrigation water from freezing in the pipes and irrigation heads. We do this by gravity draining the system yesterday. Then we connect compressors to pump air into the system. After enough pressure builds up, we turn on every irrigation head until all the water comes out. We hope to be done today.

Irrigation

Back on March 7th, we started to fill the irrigation pipes with water. We had a few irrigation leaks but overall the system is in very good shape. We hope to have the system at 100%  by Monday. We were also able to aerify, topdress, roll and fertilize all the greens by the end of the day yesterday. This photo shows the irrigation system being used to water in the fertilizer into the soil profile. We are doing all this work a week to ten days early because we have had such a warm March. We hope we can see you out on the course so you too can enjoy this great weather.
